Inuit Families of Inuit Art

Since Inuit art carvers tend to choose subjects they are familiar with, the family theme is an important area for them. Inuit families are often portrayed doing everyday things around the camp. As expected with any family theme, many Inuit art carvings will depict parents with their children.

Sometimes Inuit women are shown using an Inuit tool called an 'ulu' which is a knife with a curved blade. This Inuit knife is often used in cutting up game after the hunters bring them back to camp. Here are two Inuit carvings below which show women holding ulu knives.
