Although most of the Arctic animals are made from stone, there are some pieces carved from ivory and whalebone. Inuit carvers use a variety of materials found in the north. The walrus head below is a fine example of a piece carved from whalebone.

One of the main game animals for the Inuit is the caribou. Interestingly enough, the caribou is not often made as an Inuit art statue.
