One of the less known areas that still produce native masks and other tribal mask art is in the eastern part of Costa Rica, home of the Boruca native people. Native masks from this area often depict the wildlife in the Costa Rican rain forests.

Free Spirit Gallery does not carry Costa Rican native art but recommends a source for native tribal masks from the Boruca people. Our partner is Down to Earth, which is based in San Jose in Costa Rica (they also have an office in Miami, Florida). In addition to native masks, they also have other Costa Rican arts and crafts as well as their famous coffee.
So click on the images and links below to check out Down to Earth and then use their links (see under 'handcrafted') on the left side of their webpage to get to their masks. The two types of masks below are in separate sections and it may take some browsing to find them but they sure are interesting pieces.
