This is an exquisite Inuit art carving of a loon bird by Saima (Simon) Alayco of Akulivik, Nunavik. Saima specializes in carving birds and as one can see from this sculpture, he knows his birds quite well.
This loon bird carving is 4 1/4 inches high, 1 inch by 6 inches long. There is excellent detail on this bird, especially the tail feathers and the neck is just magnificent. The dark gray stone has natural black veining.
